July 29, 2010 – The
“SMART” graduates are at Manchester Community College
Congratulations to the recent graduates of the
Pre-Manufacturing Certificate program at Manchester Community College (MCC), a
part of a Skills for Manufacturing and Related Technologies (SMART) Grant. Their
hard work and accomplishment was recently celebrated by administrators and staff
at MCC. This program continues to broaden participation in advanced
manufacturing in CT by providing incumbent and displaced workers a path to
training for in-demand jobs. |

Dann-Messier visits Capital Workforce Partners and their partners in
education to discuss the continued aligning of workforce development and
education advancements, in nurturing a quality talent pipeline for the region
and state. |
| Summer 2010 |
Tthe 2010 Summer Youth Employment and Learning Program provides youth opportunities for job readiness, leadership and decision making. Youth achieve successes in comprehensive activities that include work readiness skill improvement, career exploration, connection to employers and paid employment. The program is funded by the State of Connecticut - Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) with leveraged funds from select municipalities and foundations. |

The 2010 Workforce Stars Breakfast reflected on 2009 successes. Once again, the event was heartwarming and inspiring. Those in the spotlight included job seekers, service providers, businesses and legislators who used or supported the workforce system to better their lives or the lives of those around them. The Capital Workforce Partners Business Services Team coordinated a jobs EXPO specially focused on area manufacturing and engineering firms and on job seekers with technical skills. Along with ~ 20 employers and job opportunities, organizations were present offering technical training, education, funding, workshops and
new business start-up advice. Present were East Hartford Mayor Melody A. Currey, State Senator Billy Ciotto and Goodwin College President
Mark Scheinberg.

10th Anniversary of the Jobs Funnel Program at the Hartford Hilton |

In celebration of its 10th Anniversary, the gala event for the Jobs Funnel in North Central Connecticut was led by U.S. Secretary of Labor, Hilda L. Solis, Congressman John B. Larson and a roomful of dignitaries. Job Funnel's Yolanda Rivera was honored with a standing ovation by 300 attendees.
A news briefing was also held to discuss the importance of Summer Youth Employment programs (video at left). |
