June 24 2011 June 24, 2011 – CHIP Graduation Student Attendance Exceeds Expectations The Lyceum in Hartford was filled with students and Internship Employers to celebrate a year of progress.  Many students are continuing their school year internships and others have graduated and secured jobs.  Tiffany Walton (center), from Hartford High's Govt. and Law Academy is one such student who has already started a job with a local law firm.
Jun. 16 2011 June 16, 2011 – 7th Annual Workforce Stars Breakfast – Over 150 gathered at the Farmington Club to honor the achievements and commitment of job seekers, workforce professionals, businesses, civic leaders and legislators.  Award recipients were those who used the workforce development system to improve their lives or those around them.  The employers honored placed and developed workers at their organizations, and the legislators loyally sustained the workforce system amid harsh budgetary headwinds. 
May 14 2011 May 14, 2011 – Students of Hartford Hospital’s Your Educational Success (YES) Program - an academic and works skills program, organized a generous community clean-up at Hartford’s Core Knowledge Academy at the Thirman L. Milner School. The YES program stems from work-based training initiatives funded by Capital Workforce Partners. Volunteers included noted YES Program founder and educator, Leticia Colon and Hartford Councilman, Luis Cotto. The group was also joined by Mayor Pedro Segarra, who donned a “YES” team shirt and dug in with the rest. 
Apr. 26 - 29

April 26- 29, 2011 - A week with a local, state and federal focus on Workforce Development - We came together in North Central Connecticut to share and learn, including many people from across the country.  We left with a sharpened perspective, priority and understanding of adult and youth workforce development including challenges, economic and social benefits, best practices, policies, budget crises and innovation.  Incisive round tables were conducted at Hartford CTWorks with Senator Dick Blumenthal and at Enfield CTWorks with Congressman Joe Courtney.  Hartford Mayor Pedro Segarra welcomed the US Conference of Mayors - Workforce Development Council to Hartford, where the Council conducted a 2011 Board Meeting.Senator Blumenthal and Governor Dannel Malloy each addressed and engaged the Council.  With its mix of workforce professionals, policy makers, employers, educators and job seekers, it was an engrossing and illuminating week!

Apr. 8 2011 April 8, 2011 - CT Green Jobs Partnership and the Jobs Funnel Prepares "Green Welders"- Eleven individuals completed a green construction welding certificate program and are now in demand by employers. Three of the the program completers have already been hired!

Feb. 10 2011

February 10, 2011 - A Celebration of Youth Employment at the Capitol - Governor Dannel P. Malloy, Acting Deputy Commissioner of Labor, Dennis Murphy and several key State Legislators joined more than 130 at the Capitol.  From across the state, workforce development professionals and youth employment program participants gathered in the Old Judiciary Room to celebrate accomplishments and recognize the value of Connecticut's youth employment program achievements and outcomes. Key legislators and guests included Deputy Speaker Marie Lopez Kirkley-Bey (D), State Senator Steve Cassano (D), Representative Tim Ackert (R) and James Ieronimo, Co-Chair, CT Employment & Training Commission (CETC).

October 19 , 2010 – Union Place was the place to be for Allied Health Jobs - This targeted job fair was designed for indviduals who received healthcare related training at CTWorks - now ready to embark on a successful career.  Many thanks to the 30+ hiring healthcare organizations in attendance as well as our education and service partners.

October 13, 2010 – A “breather” for our summer program service providers. Hartford Mayor Pedro E. Segarra joined Capital Workforce Partners at Union Station’s Great Hall to salute the dedicated service providers across North Central CT who ran the 2010 Summer Youth Employment Program, providing opportunities for nearly 2,800 youths.  The Mayor thanked each organization, and CWP’s Tom Phillips observed challenges these community leaders had overcome and the uphill advocacy battle we face next year.  Mayor Segarra asked us to join him in aiming high for Hartford in 2011 hoping to double Hartford student participation next summer!

Aug. 15 2010

The 2010 Summer Youth Employment and Learning Program provided youth opportunities for job readiness, leadership and decision making.  Youth achieved successes in comprehensive activities that included work readiness skill improvement, career exploration, connection to employers and paid employment. The program was funded by the State of Connecticut - Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) with leveraged funds from select municipalities and foundations.

July 29, 2010 – The “SMART” graduates are at Manchester Community College
Congratulations to the recent graduates of the Pre-Manufacturing Certificate program at Manchester Community College (MCC), a part of a Skills for Manufacturing and Related Technologies (SMART) Grant. Their hard work and accomplishment was celebrated by administrators and staff at MCC. This program continues to broaden participation in advanced manufacturing in CT by providing incumbent and displaced workers a path to training for in-demand jobs.

July 6, 2010 - U.S. Assistant Secretary of Education, Dr. Brenda Dann-Messier visits Capital Workforce Partners and their partners in education to discuss the continued aligning of workforce development and education advancements, in nurturing a quality talent pipeline for the region and state.

Workforce Stars Breakfast The 2010 Workforce Stars Breakfast reflected on 2009 successes. Once again, the event was heartwarming and inspiring. Those in the spotlight included job seekers, service providers, businesses and legislators who used or supported the workforce system to better their lives or the lives of those around them. Congratulations!

The Manufacturing and Engineering Employment and Resource EXPO at Goodwin College, East Hartford The Capital Workforce Partners Business Services Team coordinated a jobs EXPO specially focused on area manufacturing and engineering firms and on job seekers with technical skills.  Along with ~ 20 employers and job opportunities, organizations were present offering technical training, education, funding, workshops and new business start-up advice.  Present were East Hartford Mayor Melody A. Currey, State Senator Billy Ciotto and Goodwin College President Mark Scheinberg.

10th Anniversary of the Jobs Funnel Program at the Hartford Hilton In celebration of its 10th Anniversary, the gala event for the Jobs Funnel in North Central Connecticut was led by U.S. Secretary of Labor, Hilda L. Solis, Congressman John B. Larson and a roomful of dignitaries.  Job Funnel's Yolanda Rivera was honored with a standing ovation by 300 attendees. A news briefing was also held to discuss the importance of Summer Youth Employment programs (video at left).
