UTURE WORKFORCE

 Investment System  /  Hartford

What it is...

To address the issues of lack of preparedness
of 14-24 year olds to meet the present needs
of area employers, the Mayor of Hartford,
Eddie Perez, convened a group of leaders to
develop the
Future Workforce Investment System

System partners

The Future Workforce Investment System
is a partnership that includes the City of
Hartford
through the Mayor's Office,
Department of Health & Human Services,
Hartford Public Schools, Capital Workforce
Partners
, youth providers and employers.

System objective

To combine best practices and lessons learned
to develop a city-wide, comprehensive and
coordinated system of services for youth built
around ten success-driven strategies.
Services within the system include case
management, educational support, skills
building and "Work & Learn" opportunities.

System goal

To have more young people finishing high
school, going to and finishing college, earning
a sustainable living wage and engaging in
long-term, career-focused employment that
in turn, meets the needs of area employers.

System expansion

 FUTURE WORKFORCE

Investment System  /  New Britain  -
Due to the momentum and successes of the Hartford program, Congresswoman Nancy  Johnson awarded a grant to launch similar program initiatives in New Britain.  This program will be launched in this Fall.

Program model

All programs aligned with the Future Workforce Investment System are based on one basic
model where youth are supported through case management or service coordination, linked
to programs and services, guided by a caring adult and wherever possible, connected to
meaningful and relevant work experiences, with outcomes tracked through a web-based
program management system called Hartford Connects.

Program strategies

The five-year strategic plan for the Future Workforce Investment System consists of ten strategies.

1. Youth Framework and Youth Delivery System Strategies
